|Mostly fantasy and animal related things. "I'll just post finished pieces," she says, "It's going to all be nice and neat," she says. pfff yeah right|
I decided to give CoruKai’s design a slight overhaul this past year. Since she’s part of my main group of characters, it’s about time she got a decent character sheet of her own too. For a rather happy go lucky character, her backstory, ironically enough, is a tiny bit tragic.
As a baby, Kai was discovered by an elderly couple of apothecarists and raised on the edge of Ruanhai. They each passed away by the time she was ten and she was left to fend for herself in the years that followed. Before her encounter with Path lead her on the adventure she never anticipated, Kai lived a life of homelessness for three long years among the streets of Ruanhai’s Riaho district.
With this came a bit of trauma. Since her “escape” with Path, she rarely goes into detail about her experiences on the streets of Ruanhai’s dark sector, but they were horrific enough to where she struggles to sleep at night a year later. When she does suffer from these fits of insomnia, Path will often be there to lend a hand and put her mind at ease enough to relax. Whether either of the two will admit it or not, Path has taken up the role of adoptive mother for Kai, but it’s more of a sisterly relationship really.
She ran into Path when the Oriancarus’s confrontation with Chelgro and Mourin spilled into the Riaho district. Kai had mistaken Mourin, still disguised at the time, for another kid her age and tried to steer him away from the waring monoliths (in other words Path and Chelly when they aren’t morphed down). Instead, Mourin turned and morphed on her and she found herself smack in the middle of their conflict. Path had to intervene and the rest played itself out. So basically the two of them have been together from the start. She talked Path into taking her with her and everything since then is history She became best buds with Tanuth after meeting him in Gairain and later found herself an easy target when Brenth decided to close in on Gairain and his sister.
Perhaps the greatest thing about Kai is the fact she is entirely human. She’s been exposed to a world beyond what she could have imagined in years prior, but still remains compassionate and manages to stand out among the group as a peacekeeper. She develops into someone who can stand on her own and helps to influence the opinions of more powerful figures.
Scars are courtesy of Brenth and friends, after Kai and Tanuth found themselves in a difficult predicament that I really shouldn’t go into. She learned a hard lesson about her limitations and vulnerability in that moment though. Before then Kai never considered herself to be a liability and afterward she would aim to keep that situation from happening again.
